( Today's Reading )
Britain has a famous royal family.
In 2012 (two thousand twelve ), Queen Elizabth the second had her diamond jubilee.
A Jubilee is an anniversary or special event. A diamond anniversary is celebrating sixty years. So, Qween Elizabeth was celebrating sixty years of being Queen.
There were celebrations in many countries.
Foreign royalty from many places came to visit.
There were events with music, art and food from the last sixty years.
More than one thousand boats sailed down the River Thames in a special procession.
In some places, people had big public parties. A lot of people had public street parties. These roads were closed to traffic.
Everyone brought food, and there were big benches where people sat and ate.
British flags were hung from lamp posts.
This was a very memorable event for the British people.

Wow ! The diamond jiblee.
By the way, Ananda, do you have any jubilees in America ?
Well, America doesn't have a royal family, so we don't have royal jubilees.
But we have other special events.
Such as ?
Independence day is a big one. We celebrate July forth with parades,
barbecues and fireworks.
Sounds like fun.
Yes. It's nice watching fireworks when it's warm outside, but it's easy to
eat too much at the barbecues.
That's what happens when you celebrate.
Yes. It's all part of the fun.
